Cultivating Florida’s Botanical Heritage

In an era of rapid environmental change, the Elling Eide Center serves as a center of resilience and adaptation for native and rare plant species.

Through careful cultivation, propagation, and research, we work to conserve Florida’s botanical diversity and develop climate-resilient plant materials for restoration across the region.

Elling Eide spent decades cultivating rare plants from around the world on this property, experimenting with tropical and subtropical species and creating a living botanical collection. Today, we honor that legacy by focusing on the conservation of Florida’s native flora, particularly species that are rare, threatened, or critical to ecosystem function.

Our cultivation work bridges conservation science and practical application. We don’t just preserve plants—we study them, propagate them, and make them available to land managers working to create resilient ecosystems across Florida.

Our Cultivation Programs Include:

  • Rare Species Propagation
  • Ecotype Research
  • Seed Banking and Distribution
  • Climate Adaptation Trials
  • Ex Situ Conservation

Our current research areas include:

  • Climate-resilient ecotypes
  • Native-plant propagation methods
